Wedding - March 2013It was a cold, cold morning at Morgan Park in March. The clouds were a bit ominous but the sun managed to peak through enough to throw some shadowy light across the stone edifice dressed with flowers that the groom delivered himself. Chris Olsen, my very talented second shooter, got some detail shots while I covered the approaching bride and her father. The cold wind couldn't blow the smile from their faces.
Mimi and Paul are a great couple and I loved working with them during their engagement shoots but this was their big day and it was an unconventional wedding to say the least. It was very challenging and shooting plans changed by the minute. From the formals being displaced due to the cold, to the small reception room with sloping ceilings on which we banged our heads - it was definitely a test of skill and ingenuity - and we loved it! This is the kind of event that makes us shine.
Mimi was almost 8 months pregnant at this time and the trick was to get an equivalent amount of photos both featuring her bump and avoiding it. We managed to get some great shots of both, pulled out all the formals in the lobby of the restaurant, managed to stay somewhat warm and allowed them to just enjoy the day without worrying about the photography! Bridal - March 2013Nicole is the sister of another client - extremely pretty and a lot of fun. In the cold months there is some free time to explore new styles and experiment without the fear of not getting the consistant results demanded from a real wedding shoot. We had the dress, too tiny for any of my models and almost for her too! Luckily it just fit. Rather than do a simple bridal fashion shoot I decided to take advantage of her fun nature and "game on" attitude and try and get some "getting ready" shots - a subject for which my portfolio needed updating.
Her friend Bryan and sister Kim decided to help out as well. While makeup artist Betty Lynn Tims did Kim's face, Bryan managed to put together a suitable outfit. It quickly became a real wedding shoot, albeit without the pressure to get to a ceremony on time!
The inside shots were great and we proceeded just like any wedding. There was a beautiful old mansion almost walking distance from where we were but it was early March and FREEZING! They both braved it after a half bottle of wine and we managed to get some great stuff. See more from this shoot in the gallery! (coming soon)
